Drug Class Description :

Loop diuretics / K+-sparing diuretics (potassium-sparing diuretics).

Generic Name :

Frusemide [furosemide], amiloride [co-amilofruse]

Drug description :

Orange scored tablets marked FRU- CO.

Presentation :

Tablets, frusemide (furosemide) 40mg, amiloride hydrochloride 5mg (co-amilofruse).

Indications :

Oedema associated with cardiac failure, hepatic and renal disease.

Adult Dosage :

1 or 2 in the morning.

Child Dosage :

Not recommended.

Contra Indications :

Precomatose states associated with liver cirrhosis. Progressive renal failure. Hyperkalaemia.

Special Precautions :

Hepatic or renal impairment. Elderly. Diabetes, acidosis. Prostatic hypertrophy or impaired micturition. Gout. Pregnancy, lactation.

Interactions :

K+ supplements, K+-sparing diuretics, lithium, digitalis, aminoglycosides, cephalosporins, antihypertensives, NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors, non-depolarising muscle relaxants, hypoglycaemics.

Adverse Reactions :

Malaise, GI upset, rash. Rarely blood dyscrasias.
