CODAFEN CONTINUS (arthritis)
Drug Class Description :

Opiates (opioids) / non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Generic Name :

Codeine phosphate, ibuprofen - inflammatory conditions

Drug description :

Pink/white bilayered, capsule- shaped tablets marked IBC3.

Presentation :

Tablets, codeine phosphate 20mg, sustained-release ibuprofen 300mg.

Indications :

Pain relief in rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, seronegative arthropathies. Musculo-skeletal disorders. Soft tissue injuries.

Adult Dosage :

Initially, 2 tablets twelve hourly. If necessary, increase to 3 tablets twelve hourly. Maintenance, 1 - 3 tablets twelve hourly.

Child Dosage :

Not recommended.

Contra Indications :

Active or history of peptic ulcer, respiratory depression, chronic constipation.

Special Precautions :

History of bronchospasm, aspirin/ anti-inflammatory induced allergies. Renal, cardiac or hepatic impairment, monitor on long term therapy; heart failure. Hypothyroidism, hypotension, hypertension. Raised intracranial pressure, head injury. Pregnancy, lactation.

Interactions :

MAOIs, CNS depressants, thiazides, quinolones, oral anticoagulants.

Adverse Reactions :

GI disturbances and bleeding, peptic ulcers, constipation. Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision. Occasionally, abnormal liver function tests, renal impairment, agranulocyotosis, thrombocytopenia, respiratory depression.
