REHIDRAT (diarrhoea)
Drug Class Description :

Fluid and electrolyte replacements (electrolyte combinations).

Generic Name :

Sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, citric acid, glucose, sucrose, fructose - diarrhoea

Drug description :

Orange, blackcurrant or lemon/ lime flavoured powder.

Presentation :

Powder, sodium chloride 440mg, potassium chloride 380mg, sodium bicarbarbonate 420mg, citric acid 440mg, glucose 4.09 - 4.13g, sucrose 8.07 - 8.17g, fructose 70mg.

Indications :

Acute watery diarrhoea including gastro-enteritis.

Adult Dosage :

Reconstitute contents of 1 sachet in 250 mL water; see literature. 100 - 200mL/kg orally over 24 hours. Continue with 15mL/kg every hour until diarrhoea stops. Mild diarrhoea, drink sufficient solution to satisfy thirst.

Child Dosage :

Consult doctor for children under three years. See data sheet. three years. See data sheet. For mild diarrhoea substitute solution in equivalent volumes to feed or give after breastfeeding.

Contra Indications :

Renal impairment, intestinal obstruction, paralytic ileus.
