Drug description :

150mg: tablets. 250mg: capsules.

Presentation :

Tablets, ursodeoxycholic acid 150mg Available from APS, Galen (UrsogalR ), Hillcross. Capsules, ursodeoxycholic acid 250mg Available from APS, Galen (UrsogalR ), Hillcross.

Indications :

Dissolution of radiolucent cholesterol gallstones.

Adult Dosage :

3 - 4 daily in two divided doses after meals; one dose always after evening meal.

Continue for 3 - 4 months after dissolution of stones.

Child Dosage :

Not recommended.

Contra Indications :

Non-functioning gall bladder. Women if not taking contraceptive measures (non-hormonal methods recommended). Active gastric or duodenal ulcer. Hepatic and duodenal ulcer. Hepatic and intestinal conditions interfering with enterohepatic cycling.

Interactions :

Oral contraceptives. Oestrogens, cholesterol lowering agents.

Adverse Reactions :

Diarrhoea.
