Phenylephrine Injection 1%
Drug Class Description :

Sympathomimetics.

Generic Name :

Generic

Presentation :

Injection, phenylephrine hydrochloride 10mg/mL. Available from Sovereign.

Indications :

Acute hypotension.

Adult Dosage :

By subcutaneous or intramuscular injection, 2-5mg, followed by further doses of 1-10mg if required. By slow intravenous injection, 100-500 micrograms, repeated after 15 minutes if required. By intravenous infusion, initially, up to 180 micrograms/ minute. Reduce to 30-60 micrograms/minute according to response.

Contra Indications :

Hypertension (monitor frequently) . Pregnancy.

Special Precautions :

Coronary disease, myocardial infarction, peripheral or mesenteric vascular thrombosis. Elderly. Hyperthyroidism. Prinzmetal's variant angina, diabetes mellitus. Hypoxia or hypercapnia.

Adverse Reactions :

Hypertension, headache, Hypertension, headache, bradycardia, arrhythmias, peripheral ischaemia.
