Broad-spectrum penicillins.
Amoxicillin [amoxycillin]
Amoxil Capsules: maroon/gold capsules marked with capsule name and strength. Amoxil Syrup SF: powder for 100 mL suspension. Amoxil Paediatric Suspension: powder for 20mL. Amoxil Injection: powder in vials. Amoxil 3g Sachet SF: powder in sachet.
Amoxil Capsules: Amoxicillin (as trihydrate) 250 mg , 500 mg . Amoxil Syrup SF: Amoxicillin (as trihydrate) 125 mg , 250 mg per 5 mL in a sucrose-free, sorbitol base. Amoxil Paediatric Suspension: Amoxicillin (as trihydrate) 125 mg per 1 .25 mL. Amoxil Injection: Amoxicillin (as sodium salt) 250 mg , 500 mg , 1 g. Amoxil 3g Sachet SF: Amoxicillin (as trihydrate) 3 g in a sucrose - free sorbitol base.
Amoxil Capsules, Amoxil Syrup SF and Amoxil Paediatric Suspension: Treatment of commonly-occurring bacterial infections such as: upper respiratory infections; otitis media; acute and chronic bronchitis; chronic bronchial sepsis; lobar and bronchopneumonia; cystitis, urethritis pyelonephritis; bacteriuria in pregnancy; including puerperal sepsis abortion; gonorrhoea; peritonitis; intra-abdominal sepsis; septicemia; bacterial endocarditis; typhoid and paratyphoid fever; skin and soft tissue infections; osteomyelitis; dental abscess (as an adjunct to surgical management). In children with urinary tract infection the need for investigation should be considered. Amoxil 3g Sachet SF: Severe or recurrent acute otitis media and prophylaxis of endocarditis in children. Amoxil Injection: Severe or recurrent infection of the respiratory tract. Acute UTI. Gonorrhoea. Dental abscess (adjunct to surgical management) Prophylaxis of bacterial endocarditis.
Amoxil Capsules and Amoxil Syrup SF: 250 - 500 mg three times daily. Amoxil Injection: 500 mg intramuscularly eight hourly, or 1 g intravenously six hourly for severe infections. Amoxil 3g Sachet SF: RTI, 3 g twice daily. Acute UTI, 3 g repeated once 12 hours later. Gonorrhoea, 3 g single dose. Dental abscess, 3 g repeated once 8 hours later. Prophylaxis of endocarditis, single 3 g dose one hour before dental procedure from which bacteraemia may arise. Repeat 6 hours later if necessary.
Amoxil Paediatric Suspension: Under 10 years, half adult dose; over 10 years, adult dose. Use paediatric suspension for children under 6 months. Otitis media: Under 3 years, not recommended; 3 - 10 years, 750 mg twice daily for 2 days. Prophylaxis of endocarditis: Under 5 years, 750 mg; 5 - 10 years, 1.5 g. Both 1 hour before dental procedure from which bacteraemia may arise. Amoxil Injection: 50 - 100 mg/kg daily in divided doses. Amoxil 3g Sachet SF: Prophylaxis of endocarditis. Infectious mononucleosis.
Anticoagulants.
Hypersensitivity reactions. GI disturbances. Rarely, cholestatic jaundice, haematological effects.
