Drug Class Description :

Antiplatelets (antiplatelet agents, salicylates).

Generic Name :

Aspirin

Drug description :

White e-c tablets marked with tablet strength.

Presentation :

Tablets, aspirin 75 mg .

Indications :

Prevention of secondary MI. Antithrombotic in patients with unstable angina or cerebral transient ischaemic attacks.

Adult Dosage :

Acute, 2 tablets chewed. Maintenance 1 tablet daily.

Child Dosage :

Not recommended.

Contra Indications :

Active peptic ulceration, haemophilia, hypoprothrombinaemia, lactation.

Special Precautions :

History of bronchospasm, aspirin/ anti-inflammatory induced allergies. Impaired renal or hepatic function. Dyspepsia. Pregnancy.

Interactions :

Coumarin anticoagulants and hypoglycaemic agents (especially sulphonylureas), certain anti- inflammatory agents, uricosuric inflammatory agents, uricosuric agents, methotrexate, spironolactone, corticosteroids, antacids.

Adverse Reactions :

Allergic or asthmatic reactions. GI intolerance.
