IODOSORB
Drug Class Description :

Exudate absorbents / antibacterials.

Generic Name :

Cadexomer iodine

Drug description :

Powder in sachets or ointment in tubes.

Presentation :

Iodosorb Powder: cadexomer iodine. Iodosorb Ointment: cadexomer iodine.

Indications :

Chronic exuding wounds.

Adult Dosage :

Apply to depth of 3mm, cover with sterile dressing; change approximately three times a week or when ointment saturated.

Do not exceed 150g in one week. A single course of treatment should not exceed three months.

Child Dosage :

Not recommended for use in children.

Contra Indications :

Pregnancy, lactation. Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, non-toxic nodular goitre. Iodosorb powder contains 0.9% iodine and must not be used in patients with known or in patients with known or suspected iodine sensitivity.

Special Precautions :

Thyroid disorders. Iodine is absorbed systemically especially when large wounds are treated. This should be taken into consideration in patients undertaking thyroid function tests.

Interactions :

Lithium, sulphafurazoles, sulphonylureas.
