Drug Class Description :

Anticholinergics.

Generic Name :

Benztropine

Drug description :

Cogentin Tablets: white quarter- scored tablets coded MSD 60. Cogentin Injection: 2 mL ampoules.

Presentation :

Cogentin Tablets, benztropine mesylate 2 mg . Cogentin Injection, benztropine mesylate 1mg per mL.

Indications :

Parkinsonism, including drug

Adult Dosage :

Cogentin Tablets: Initially 0.5 mg daily, increasing by 0.5 mg every five to six days as required to maximum 6 mg daily. See data sheet. Cogentin Injection: In emergencies, 1-2 mg by intramuscular or intravenous injection.

Child Dosage :

Under three years, not recommended; three to 12 years, contact manufacturer.

Contra Indications :

Tardive dyskinesia.

Special Precautions :

Tachycardia. Prostatic hypertrophy. Narrow angle glaucoma. GI obstruction. Withdraw slowly. Pregnancy, lactation. Sweating abnormalities.

Interactions :

Phenothiazines, antidopaminergics and antidepressants.

Adverse Reactions :

Anticholinergic effects. Confusion, agitation, rash in high doses.
