Drug Class Description :

Sulphonamides.

Generic Name :

Sulfametopyrazine

Drug description :

White tablets marked LONGUM.

Presentation :

Tablets, sulfametopyrazine 2 g.

Indications :

Chronic bronchitis (including prophylaxis), urinary tract infections.

Adult Dosage :

2 g once weekly.

Child Dosage :

Not recommended.

Contra Indications :

Nursing mothers. Late pregnancy. Sensitivity to sulphonamides.

Special Precautions :

Impaired renal or hepatic function, blood dyscrasias, dehydration. Regular blood counts on long term therapy.

Interactions :

Folate antagonists, oral hypoglycaemics.

Adverse Reactions :

Haemolytic anaemia. GI disturbances, glossitis and skin rashes. Leucopenia over long periods.
