Opioid use in patients with drug abuse

Opioid use in patients with drug abuse

Patients with problem drug abuse can use opioids to manage pain, although this should be initiated and managed by a specialist in treating these cases.

This situation may be encountered by healthcare professionals who treat patients living with HIV/AIDS who have contracted the virus through shared use of needles from drug use. In these cases, it is recommended that a specialist in addiction management be contacted for advice.
